SIMON PHILLIPS - TOOLS OF DIRECTING THE SCRIPT - WEEKEND MASTERCLASS
thumbnail
Friday 17th June 7-9pm
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th June - 10 to 5 pm

Novotel Hotel St. Pancras, London NW1 2AJ

For the first time in the UK, Tools of Directing introduce a new set of tools that will let you:

•    Discover what is hidden in your script
•    Have a clear vision as a writer/director
•    Know how the script should uniquely change to make your story great
•    Give notes to empower your writer to improve and develop the work

This concentrated workshop is built around a series of highly participative, practical exercises designed to give directors (producers and writers) the tools they need to craft and work with their script. Tools of Directing the Script have been used successfully on award-winning films and by first-time feature film directors to secure the funding they needed to take their project forward.

Simon’s ground-breaking techniques give directors their own unique methodology, neither dependant on theories of writing nor acting, but relating specifically to the director’s craft. He brings new insight and clarity to the complex task of directing - and though Simon’s methods are targeted at film for now, they are equally applicable to the theatre. The Guild is delighted to support Tools of Directing.

Because of the one-to-one nature of Simon’s work, places are very limited. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

The Guild is able to offer a limited number of heavily discounted placements.

COMMENTS AFTER PREVIOUS TOOLS OF DIRECTING MASTERCLASSES

“Very inspiring and a fantastic learning experience... With this understanding, I know I will be able to focus much more clearly on what I am looking for in the scenes and on what to point the camera at.” Andrew Lindsay

“The master class was invaluable. I found myself directing a piece a couple of weeks thereafter... The results spoke volumes, I came away feeling that my game had been 'upped'.” Guy Ducker

“Today was the last shooting day of my film. One of the actors sent an SMS to me this evening:
“Many thanks. Great fun and challenging to work with you,
a director who is interested and who has the tools to direct
for real, instead of a lot of empty talk. It's been a real pleasure!"
 - thank you for The Tools.”
