Directors Guild of Great Britain: directing film and theatre
Events and Training

High quality training for directors is at the heart of the Directors Guild.

We provide a range of courses, seminars and talks for directors – to inspire, inform and provoke debate in theatre, film, television and radio.

Our courses look at the key areas of the craft of directing. They are offered at a discount to Guild members but are also open to the public as the Guild is committed to encouraging and training all directors, particularly currently under-represented groups.

The Guild also organises a series of networking opportunities for members throughout the year. These events range from informal monthly drinks to seminars with leading practitioners and specialists in lighting, design and other areas of live and recorded media. In the past we have held informal  “One to One” meetings with Development Executives from the UK Film Council.

Together with the Directors Guild Trust we have developed the new mentoring scheme, Direct Access,  which places new directors as observers on feature films. The Guild is also looking to set up a similar scheme for directors in theatre, television and radio.
